Effective January 1, 2022
Alabama holds producers to a best interest standard of conduct when recommending an annuity. The training requirement has been expanded to include the new standard of conduct. Before selling annuities, producers must complete the one-time 4-hour course.
Reciprocity: Compliance with another state’s training requirements that are substantially similar to this requirement will be deemed in compliance with Alabama’s training requirement.
1-Hour Course: closed (a 1-hour course was available 1/1/2022 – 6/1/2022 to producers who had completed the original 4-hour annuity training).

California
Effective January 1, 2025
Currently in Effect: All resident and non-resident agents selling annuities must complete the California 8-Hour Annuity Training course. Thereafter, any resident or non-resident life producer who solicits individual consumers in order to sell annuities must complete a 4-hour specifically designated annuity training course every two years prior to license renewal.
As of 1/1/25: California will hold producers to a best interest standard of conduct when recommending an annuity. The training requirement has been expanded to include the new standard of conduct. New producers will still be required to complete the CA 8-hour annuity course. The 4-hour BI course will be required every two years for course renewal; producers licensed before 1/1/2025 will be required to complete the 4-hour BI course within 6 months of the effective date. Producers licensed on/after 1/1/2025 will need to complete the CA 8-hour annuity course. There will not be a 1-hour course filed/available in CA.
Reciprocity: California does not permit the completion of training in a reciprocal state to satisfy the training requirements.
4-Hour Courses: California 4-Hour Annuity Training Course.
4 Hour Annuity & Best Interest Training Course (CE) Available 1/1/2025 – 7/1/2025 to producers who have completed the original 8-hour annuity training (required every two years for license renewal)
8-Hour Course: California 8-Hour Annuity Training Course.
Currently in Effect: All resident and non-resident agents selling annuities must complete the California 8-Hour Annuity Training course. Thereafter, any resident or non-resident life producer who solicits individual consumers in order to sell annuities must complete a 4-hour specifically designated annuity training course every two years prior to license renewal.
As of 1/1/25: California will hold producers to a best interest standard of conduct when recommending an annuity. The training requirement has been expanded to include the new standard of conduct. New producers will still be required to complete the CA 8-hour annuity course. The 4-hour BI course will be required every two years for course renewal; producers licensed before 1/1/2025 will be required to complete the 4-hour BI course within 6 months of the effective date. Producers licensed on/after 1/1/2025 will need to complete the CA 8-hour annuity course. There will not be a 1-hour course filed/available in CA.
Reciprocity: California does not permit the completion of training in a reciprocal state to satisfy the training requirements.

Effective November 1, 2022
